Description

Working with children ages 18 to 36 months in a Montessori environment requires a thoughtful balance of nurturing care, structured routines, and opportunities for growing independence. During this stage of development, toddlers are rapidly developing language, movement, social skills, and self-help abilities. This course is designed to provide educators with the knowledge and practical skills needed to create a safe, healthy, organized, and developmentally appropriate Montessori toddler environment.

Throughout this course, participants will explore essential health, safety, and hygiene practices that support the well-being of young children. Topics include active supervision, diapering and toileting procedures, handwashing and sanitization, illness prevention, safe classroom practices, and emergency preparedness. Educators will learn how to create routines that promote both safety and independence while meeting the unique needs of toddlers.

The course also focuses on Montessori classroom organization and the prepared environment, helping educators understand how to design spaces that encourage exploration, movement, concentration, and self-directed learning. Participants will learn how carefully selected materials, accessible environments, and consistent routines support toddlers as they develop confidence and independence.

In addition, participants will examine the developmental characteristics of children ages 18 to 36 months and learn strategies for supporting physical, cognitive, language, and social-emotional growth. The course highlights the Montessori approach to respectful caregiving, observation, positive guidance, and fostering independence through everyday activities.

Educators will also learn how to establish predictable routines and transitions that help toddlers feel secure while providing opportunities to practice self-care skills, problem-solving, communication, and cooperation. Emphasis is placed on creating a calm, supportive classroom community where children can learn at their own pace.

By the end of this course, participants will have the knowledge and confidence needed to maintain a safe, healthy, and well-organized Montessori toddler classroom that supports children’s independence, development, and love of learning.

I really enjoyed this training. It helped me better understand the unique developmental needs of toddlers and how Montessori principles support their rapid growth. The focus on self-help skills, movement, communication, and respectful guidance was especially valuable. I feel much more confident working with this energetic and curious age group.

This course was both informative and inspiring. It highlighted the importance of creating a prepared environment that encourages exploration, confidence, and independence while providing the structure toddlers need to thrive. The strategies for observation, redirection, and supporting developmental milestones made this training incredibly useful for Montessori educators.
