Gardening offers children a unique opportunity to explore the natural world while developing important life skills. Through planting, nurturing, and harvesting, children gain hands-on experiences that encourage curiosity, responsibility, and a deeper appreciation for nature. This course is designed for early childhood educators, caregivers, and parents who want to introduce gardening as an engaging and meaningful learning activity for young children.
Â
Throughout the course, participants will discover how gardening supports children’s physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. Working with soil, seeds, and plants helps children strengthen fine and gross motor skills, develop patience, and build problem-solving abilities as they observe how plants grow and change over time. Gardening also encourages children to ask questions, explore scientific concepts, and develop a sense of wonder about the natural environment.
Â
The course is organized into three comprehensive lessons that guide participants through the full gardening experience. Participants will learn about the developmental benefits of gardening, practical techniques for starting and maintaining a child-friendly garden, and ways to involve children in the exciting process of harvesting what they grow. The course also highlights how gardening can be used to teach concepts such as responsibility, teamwork, healthy eating, and environmental awareness.
Â
In addition, participants will explore ways to incorporate gardening into classroom or home routines, using it as a tool for cross-curricular learning in science, math, and nutrition. Activities and strategies are designed to be adaptable for various settings, whether working with a large outdoor garden, raised beds, or small container gardens.
Â
By the end of this course, participants will have the knowledge and confidence to create meaningful gardening experiences that inspire curiosity, promote environmental stewardship, and help children develop a lifelong connection to nature.
This course was incredibly inspiring and gave me so many ideas for bringing nature into the classroom. I loved how it showed that gardening can teach children about science, responsibility, and patience all at the same time. The step-by-step suggestions made it easy to start small and build meaningful gardening experiences with my students.
I really enjoyed this training. It explained how gardening encourages curiosity, observation, and hands-on learning for young children. The course provided great ideas for simple projects like planting seeds, caring for plants, and exploring the outdoor environment. My students are now much more excited about spending time outside and learning about nature.
This course was both practical and engaging. It showed how gardening can support many areas of development, from science and math to teamwork and responsibility. I especially appreciated the ideas for connecting gardening activities with classroom lessons and discussions. It has become one of the most rewarding learning experiences for my class.
