The first year of life is a period of extraordinary growth and change—a time when children develop at a pace unmatched in any other stage. This course provides a deep dive into the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of infants from birth to 12 months, helping caregivers and educators understand the unique needs of babies during this critical period.

You’ll explore developmental milestones in areas such as sensory and motor skills, early communication, and emerging problem-solving abilities, along with the science behind attachment theories and why secure, responsive relationships are essential for lifelong well-being. We’ll examine the role of responsive caregiving practices, including reading infants’ cues, fostering trust, and providing consistent, loving care.

The course also covers practical strategies for creating safe, nurturing, and stimulating environments that encourage exploration and learning while supporting healthy brain development. Special attention will be given to how daily routines—feeding, sleeping, playing, and interacting—can be used intentionally to promote growth and strengthen the caregiver-child bond.
