Description

Maria Montessori believed that children learn about the world first through their senses, making sensorial experiences a critical foundation for future learning. Before children can fully understand abstract concepts, they must first explore, observe, compare, and organize information gathered through sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. This course introduces the purpose and importance of Sensorial Education within the Montessori classroom and its role in supporting cognitive development.

Throughout this course, participants will explore how Montessori sensorial materials help children refine their senses and develop the ability to classify, compare, discriminate, and organize information. Through carefully designed hands-on experiences, children learn to identify differences in size, shape, color, texture, weight, sound, temperature, and other qualities found in their environment.

The course examines the goals of sensorial education and how these activities help prepare children for later learning in mathematics, language, science, and other academic areas. Participants will learn how sensorial materials support concentration, problem-solving, observation skills, and the development of abstract thinking.

In addition, participants will gain an understanding of how Montessori educators present sensorial materials, observe children’s progress, and create learning environments that encourage exploration and discovery. The course highlights the importance of allowing children to learn through direct experience while developing confidence in their own abilities.

By the end of this course, participants will understand the foundational role of sensorial education in the Montessori curriculum and be prepared to support children’s sensory development through purposeful, hands-on learning experiences that lay the groundwork for future intellectual growth.

Hannah H.

This course provided a fantastic overview of the Montessori Sensorial curriculum and its role in helping children make sense of the world around them. I appreciated how it explained the purpose behind each material and how sensorial experiences support cognitive development, concentration, and problem-solving. The lessons were engaging and easy to understand.

Emily B.

I really enjoyed this training. It helped me better understand how children learn through their senses and how Montessori materials are carefully designed to refine observation, discrimination, and classification skills. The practical examples made it easy to see how sensorial activities lay the foundation for future learning in math, language, and science.

Sara L.

This course was both informative and inspiring. It highlighted the importance of hands-on exploration and showed how sensorial materials encourage children to become more aware of patterns, differences, and relationships in their environment. The focus on independence, discovery, and purposeful learning made this training incredibly valuable for Montessori educators.
