Description

Play is a foundational element of early childhood education and one of the most effective ways young children learn and grow. Through play, children explore their environment, develop social relationships, build problem-solving skills, and practice creativity. As a childcare educator, your role extends beyond simply supervising playtime—you play an important part in guiding, supporting, and enriching children’s play experiences in ways that promote learning and development.

This course explores how educators can become active and intentional participants in children’s play. Participants will learn how to observe children’s interests, recognize learning opportunities within play, and engage with children in ways that extend their thinking and curiosity without interrupting the natural flow of play.

Throughout the course, participants will also learn how different types of play support key areas of child development, including cognitive, social-emotional, language, and physical growth. Educators will explore strategies for creating environments that encourage exploration, collaboration, creativity, and independent discovery.

In addition, the course will focus on how to observe and assess children’s development during play activities. Participants will learn how play can provide valuable insights into a child’s skills, interests, and developmental progress, helping educators tailor activities and support to meet each child’s individual needs.

The course will also highlight the importance of maintaining safe, inclusive, and supportive play environments. Educators will learn strategies for guiding positive peer interactions, encouraging cooperation, and ensuring that every child feels welcomed and able to participate in play.

By the end of this course, participants will have the knowledge and tools needed to actively support play-based learning, transforming everyday play experiences into meaningful opportunities for growth, discovery, and development.

I really enjoyed this training. It helped me better understand how to support children’s learning while still allowing them the freedom to explore and create. The course offered great examples of how educators can ask thoughtful questions and introduce new ideas during play without taking over the experience.

Danielle K.

This course was both inspiring and practical. It showed how intentional play experiences help children build problem-solving skills, creativity, and social connections. I appreciated the focus on creating engaging play environments and being an active, supportive guide in the learning process.
