Bilingual students bring valuable cultural perspectives and linguistic diversity to the classroom. When educators understand how to support students who are learning in more than one language, they can create inclusive learning environments where every child has the opportunity to succeed both academically and socially. Supporting Bilingual Students in the Classroom is designed to help educators develop the skills and strategies needed to effectively support bilingual and multilingual learners.
Throughout this course, participants will explore how bilingualism influences language development, learning, and communication. Educators will gain insight into the unique strengths bilingual students bring to the classroom, as well as the challenges they may face while developing proficiency in multiple languages.
Participants will learn practical strategies for supporting bilingual students’ academic success, including ways to scaffold instruction, build vocabulary, and support comprehension while honoring students’ home languages. The course will also highlight techniques for encouraging participation, boosting confidence, and creating opportunities for meaningful language practice.
In addition, the course focuses on creating inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environments that celebrate diversity and promote belonging. Educators will learn how to incorporate multicultural materials, recognize cultural differences, and build strong partnerships with families to support children’s language development both at school and at home.
By the end of this course, participants will be prepared to create supportive learning environments where bilingual students feel valued, understood, and empowered to succeed, while strengthening their language skills and academic abilities.
