Play is one of the most powerful tools for learning in early childhood. For young children, play is not just entertainment—it is the way they explore their environment, develop new skills, and make sense of the world around them. When educators intentionally combine learning with play, they create meaningful experiences that support children’s curiosity, creativity, and overall development.
In this course, participants will explore the critical role play has in early childhood education and how it supports cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. You will learn how play encourages children to experiment, solve problems, communicate with peers, and build confidence as they discover new ideas and abilities.
The course will also highlight different types of play, such as imaginative play, cooperative play, sensory play, and constructive play, and how each type contributes to children’s growth and learning. Participants will discover how to create environments that encourage exploration and how to design activities that naturally blend educational concepts with engaging play experiences.
Educators will also learn practical strategies for guiding play-based learning, including how to ask open-ended questions, observe children’s interests, and extend play experiences to introduce concepts such as early math, language development, and problem-solving.
By the end of this course, participants will understand how to intentionally integrate play into daily teaching practices, creating learning environments where children are motivated to explore, discover, and develop a lifelong love for learning.
