This course is designed specifically for students participating in a mentoring relationship and serves as the companion course to the Mentor training program. While mentors receive guidance on how to support, coach, and develop their mentees, this course focuses on helping students understand their role in the mentoring process and how to maximize the benefits of the experience.
Throughout the course, participants will learn what to expect from a mentoring relationship and how to actively engage in their own professional growth and development. Students will explore the purpose of mentoring, the responsibilities of both mentors and mentees, and the importance of maintaining open communication, mutual respect, and a willingness to learn.
The course will help students develop skills for setting meaningful goals, seeking feedback, and applying new knowledge and experiences to their daily work. Participants will learn how to take ownership of their professional development by identifying areas for growth, asking thoughtful questions, and utilizing their mentor as a valuable resource.
In addition, students will learn strategies for building productive mentoring relationships, including effective communication techniques, professionalism, accountability, and collaboration. The course emphasizes the importance of being receptive to guidance while also contributing actively to the mentoring partnership.
Participants will also explore how mentoring can support career advancement, skill development, confidence-building, and long-term success within the early childhood education field. Through reflection and practical application, students will gain a better understanding of how mentoring can help them achieve both personal and professional goals.
By the end of this course, participants will understand how to fully engage in the mentoring process, build strong mentor-mentee relationships, and use mentoring opportunities to enhance their growth, performance, and career development.
